Overview
Enjoy the spectacular views from a balloon basket and experience this ancient sport. Meeting in Geelong and with a flying area that encompasses the beginning of The Great Ocean Road surrounds, many of our flights in the area have spectacular views of the bay and the ocean to the south. If we need to be a little more conservative because of the wind direction that morning, we still choose launch locations to try to give you the best views at sunrise that the day can offer. Geelong City Council has come on board with us and has allowed us to use many of the city parks for taking off and landing…this allows us some spectacular flights over the city on many days. Due to its proximity to the bay and Avalon Airport, some flights will be out to the West and North, like Bannockburn and Murgheboluc. Wherever we fly, you will enjoy spectacular views of the region in the early morning light.
At Liberty Balloon Flights we give you the finest experience of free flight in a balloon in the whole of Australia, hands down. View the sun rise over the horizon with pilots who are the first operators in the area. We fly higher than any other operation in the country to give you the best views and no, you WILL NOT feel height sick. This is the full experience of a balloon flight with the personalised service only small groups can receive. Breathtaking views and safety assured with pilots who have been flying for over 30 years, not only in Geelong but also up and down The Andes, Patagonia, Mexico, the UK and many countries and cities around the world, including and for many years, Melbourne. We like adventure and we make it SAFE. We call this “The Peaceful Adventure”. Views across the Barrabool Hills, Port Phillip Bay to the East and the Bellarine Peninsula and the Ocean to the South in a morning you will never forget. Participate in the oldest form of aviation, a hot air balloon flight. Champagne breakfast at the Rydges Hotel after the flight is on us!

Good to know
Our launch sites will vary depending on the wind direction on the day, choosing a location to take off and give you the best views possible for that flight. On a South-Easterly wind flow we might take off from the Bellarine Peninsula, with straight Easterlies we can launch from the city itself and on many occasions we launch to the West or North West, in Murgheboluc or Bannockburn, enjoying the views of the Barrabool Hills. The views are always stunning, with Port Phillip Bay to our East, the Ocean to the South, the Barwon River arriving from the West and the small You Yangs to the North.
The pilot will decide not to fly if the conditions are not suitable. This can be because it is either too windy, too unstable or because of low clouds or rain. Balloon flights are cancelled quite often and it is best to have some flexibility if at all possible. If your flight is booked you can easily reschedule for another day of your choice
What do I need to wear to go ballooning? The simple answer is to dress for an outdoor activity. Be PRACTICAL in every sense. Ballooning tends to be a hands-on experience and you can get a little dirty on different tasks, especially on helping to pack the balloon away after the flight. Avoid expensive clothes and whites if possible. Above everything else, be practical with what you wear on your feet. The fields are damp most early mornings, the grass might be wet after some rains and, if flying in the countryside, balloons might land in paddocks with cattle and yes, you know what happens after a cow has finished its digestion! Not only do you not want to ruin your best pair of shoes, but you also do not want to start your morning with cold or wet feet…this can ruin the whole experience for you. Bring a small bag if you like with spare shoes or socks if you need to go straight elsewhere after the flight. Our crew will be happy to look after gear in our minibuses. Sturdy shoes, boots are best but runners generally are ok as well. Wear socks, avoid city flats and above all else, no high heels, please!
