Overview
Travel to an oyster farm just outside the township of Coffin Bay. Along the journey you’ll experience beautiful Coffin Bay coastal & township views plus learn the history of oyster farming & visit the first ever oyster lease in Coffin Bay.
While you sit back & relax your host, a veteran oyster farmer, will share with you the history of oyster farming. Including how premium Coffin Bay oysters are produced & what it is about the pristine Coffin Bay waterways that makes oysters world renowned. Plus we’ll teach you how to shuck like a pro!
You’ll witness pods of dolphins playing in the water alongside the boat as they follow us on our journey (sightings cannot be guaranteed but are highly likely).
Locally produced wines, beers & gin are available to purchase which are the perfect accompaniment to a plate of freshly shucked oysters direct from the source.
With so much to see & do in Coffin Bay we know that some visitors only have limited time to experience every aspect of the region & that’s why we created the Short & Sweet tour.
Important Information:
Checkin – Tour checkin time is strictly 15 minutes prior to you tour start time at the boat at berth 5 Coffin Bay Yacht Club floating jetty. The boat departs at the tour start time so please don’t be late as we would hate for you to miss the boat. We can’t wait unfortunately.
Tour Duration – Tour duration is an approximate only. If your tour finishes a little early it is only because of less numbers on board that day or weather has allowed us to finish everything a little quicker than normal.
Weather – The weather can quickly turn cold on the water, even when fine, sunny conditions are forecasted so we always advise bringing a warm jacket & beanie.
What to Bring – We also recommend you pack sunscreen, a hat, sunglasses & a camera (you are definitely going to want to capture this experience!)
Minors – Children 0-5yrs must be strictly supervised by their parents at all times.
We welcome children & infants on our tours. We find that most children are really curious about oysters, how they’re grown, the oyster boat, plus the marine life that we encounter along the cruise. However our skippers talk is approximately 20-30mins long which is generally not of interest to little ones. Therefore we recommend parents bring a quiet activity for this part of the tour (an iPad with head phones is ideal) or an exciting snack to keep the kids entertained during this time.
Alternatively families have the option to sit in the outside seating area during this part of the tour if they’d be more comfortable, which is an ideal location to spot an array of sea-creatures in the oyster farm.
Occasionally we have a few oyster bags to return to the water, if your booking is a special occasion & you don’t want this to happen please let us know.
*Please note that this tour does not include a wading experience.

Good to know
We require a minimum of 4 persons for this tour to go ahead.

We do not guarantee seals or dolphins will appear each trip.
Our new tour boat is specially built for your comfort and this includes a toilet but it can only be accessed by two steps down into it with hand rails for assistance if required.
Please be mindful when using this toilet as it is a marine toilet and very sensitive to what is placed in it. Nothing but toilet paper provided can be put in the toilet. The marine toilet has a plastic crunching mechanism that can only break up marine grade toilet paper and nothing else. A blockage from incorrect items placed in the toilet takes a whole day to unblock and makes for a very very grumpy crew and skipper. Please ask crew for instructions of how to use before entering.
We welcome children & infants on our tours. We find that most children are really curious about oysters, how they’re grown, the oyster boat, plus the marine life that we encounter along the cruise. Is the wading experience available on the 90 min Short and Sweet tour? No it is not available on this tour as we do not allow the time for the wading experience and the oyster farm that we visit does not have a clear sandy bottom to walk around on.
Can we bring our own alcohol? As we are a licensed venue you can’t bring your own alcohol. On the tour we have local beer, wine and Coffin Bay gin available to purchase by the glass or bottle while you eat your oysters.
Are the oysters only served natural? The oysters are freshly shucked and served natural. They do come with fresh lemon. We also have Wasabi and Tabasco sauce that you can enjoy with your oysters onboard. If you believe that you don’t like oysters then we encourage you to consider when booking that this might be the only time you get to try oysters fresh from the farm, you may be surprised how much you might like them!
Can we purchase fresh oysters on the tour to take home? No unfortunately we can not sell oysters on the boat for you to take home due to new oyster harvest food safety protocols. You also can not take oysters from the boat that you have decided not to consume onboard during the tour.
I am concerned I will get sea sick? Our boat is a very stable boat that bridges the waves when travelling along and does not roll around on the top of the water when stationary. It is very unusual for someone to feel sea sick. If you are on tour and do feel sick we ask that you bring this to our attention so that we can minimise the circumstances that is causing this for you.
How long will it take to get from Port Lincoln to Coffin Bay? We recommend that you allow 45 mins to travel comfortably by car the distance from Port Lincoln to Coffin Bay. There is parking available at the Coffin Bay boat ramp.
Does your boat have access for wheelchairs? Yes, our entry doors are 800mm wide & have been specially designed for XL wheelchair access. We also board from a floating pontoon which allows for seamless wheelchair access. However unfortunately our toilet does not have wheelchair access.
