Overview
Mt. Field offers a variety of walks in one of Tasmania’s oldest National Parks. Most famous for Russell Falls & the Tall Trees track we explore the great short walks within this diverse Park which is just a short 1.5 hour drive from Hobart.
The Three Falls Circuit and Tall Trees Walk form a loop of the lower rainforest section of Mount Field National Park. The full circuit walk of 6kms, over reasonably easy terrain covers the parks highlights of Russell Falls, Horseshoe Falls, Lady Barron Falls & the Tall Trees Track. You have the option and time to complete 1 waterfall, 2 waterfalls or the whole circuit depending on your sense of adventure on the day! We begin with the walk to Russell Falls which is easily Tasmania’s most recognisable waterfall with its 3-tiered drop. It is an easy and enjoyable walk along a beautiful forest track among mixed forest and temperate rainforest species. This is Tassie’s most photographed waterfall, and we soak up the awesome view before continuing our walk. Just beyond Russell Falls we climb the stairs to Horseshoe Falls, a majestic waterfall snuggled in the forest, which some regard as even more impressive than Russell Falls! We continue along the Three Falls Circuit and enter the section known as the Tall Trees Track. High above us stand the giant Swamp Gums around 80 metres tall, the world’s tallest flowering plant. From here, we have the option to complete the full circuit by continuing onto Lady Barron Falls, this is best suited to our fit and active participants. Or return back to our start point for those looking for a more relaxed experience.
We enjoy our lunch break in one of the many beautiful picnic settings of the National Park.
Next up is Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary where you’ll meet all kinds of native wildlife. Learn about Tasmania’s rare and precious fauna during an informative wildlife tour conducted by the expert staff at Bonorong. Our final stop is the summit of kunyani/Mount Wellington, standing proud behind Hobart at 1271 metres above sea level. If your eyes aren’t watering from the icy air, they will be from the sweeping views. See the entire city, surrounding mountains and Derwent river system sparkling at your feet. This is a fantastic way to wrap up a day exploring many of Tassie’s most unique and noteworthy experiences, rainforests, waterfalls, wildlife, and fabulous scenery

Good to know
Can I bring luggage on board the tour day? Please only bring hand luggage/day pack on tour, otherwise we won't all fit! We do not travel with luggage onboard the day tour vehicles. We expect that each traveler will have a day pack only to store your daily essentials such as drinks, snacks, warm jacket etc. while on tour for the day. No other luggage is able to be carried on our day tours. If you are moving hotels or have onwards travels you will need to ensure this is stored for the day at your hotel/accommodation prior to boarding the tour bus. If you attend a tour with luggage without consultation with our Reservations Team prior to travel, you may be refused entry to the tour vehicle. Please contact our team in advance of your tour to discuss options.
We anticipate you will have 1 x small piece of luggage or backpack to store for the day, + you will have your hand luggage/day pack for the tour day. If you have more than this, please contact our team to check whether this can be accommodated.
Airport Drop Off? We do not offer airport drop off on our tour days. Most tours arrive back to Hobart / Launceston around 5.30 – 6.00pm, returning to the same location as your pick up. If you have an onward flight that evening, we would recommend ensuring it leaves 8.00pm onwards.
Is food and drink included in the tour? We do not supply lunch, snacks or beverages on our tours but we do stop along the way for you to purchase food to suit your budget and taste. This is usually a Bakery style stop in a regional town along the way to the main destination for the day. You will then be able to enjoy a lunch break during the tour day, usually somewhere scenic and suitable for a rest stop. You are also welcome of course to bring along your own packed lunch to enjoy on the day. If you have special dietary requirements it may be better to bring your own prepared lunch /snacks. Please bring a large water bottle for the day.
