Overview

Highlights
– Adelaide’s fun foods
– If you’re a huge foodie, or want a different look into Adelaide culture, this food history tour is for you. Join the original tour featuring South Australia food icons!
– What are Fruchocs? What is fritz? A frog cake? Find out as you join us for our two-hour Adelaide food tour around the city centre, where you will discover the local meats and sweets of South Australia. As we detail the history of these locally made products, you’ll taste the city’s best chocolate, nuts, and iced coffee, plus oddities we grow up eating in Adelaide: a frog cake and some fritz. Finally, lunch will be provided from within the market at a popular bakery (a meat pie/pasty etc of your choice). You’ll take away a surprise dessert plus extra goodies to continue your Adelaide food journey.
– This is a fun, unique Adelaide tour about the city’s love for quirky food. Tours are taken by a born-and-raised local Adelaide foodie as your guide, with a small group maximum of 10 people (average four). Walk away with a different look to Adelaide past the tags of Radelaide or the City of Churches, and be sure to bring a shopping bag as you’ll have time to make purchases at our stops.

Itinerary
– Haigh’s Chocolates
Sample what we know to be Australia’s finest chocolate, and learn about the rise of the Haigh family to confectionery prominence. Rich in history and flavour, Haigh’s is adored for good reason.
– Balfours Cafe
Learn about local love for footy pies and frog cakes, and understand Adelaide’s friendly rivalries for bakery supremacy. It’s all about meats and sweets with Balfours, and it’s too easy to go back for extras later.
– Adelaide Central Market
Discover where you can find fritz as you get introduced to the sights and smells of Adelaide’s food mecca. The market is high on every visitor’s Adelaide to-do list, so make sure to continue exploring after your food tour is complete.

Good to know

We walk in rain, hail or shine – until our hot weather policy kicks in. If a day’s forecast is a temperature of 44 degrees Celsius or higher 12-24 hours before any tour begins, it will be cancelled and notification will be sent out. Walkers will be contacted for the option of a refund or rescheduling.

We rarely cancel tours because of wet/wintry weather. Adelaide’s climate is quite manageable in the colder months, and this will be done only when deemed absolutely necessary for the safety of those involved. If this happens guests are entitled to a refund or reschedule, and will be notified in reasonable time ahead of the tour’s starting time.

All tours are accessible – there is flat terrain on all regular tours.

We don't have scheduled breaks,so we recommend to use a bathroom and stock up on water (and snacks if needed) before departure. You will be stopping repeatedly on any tour to rest your legs though!

The tour ends within the Adelaide city centre, with easy transport options close by to take you to your next destination.

The tour is on location in the Adelaide CBD.

Are people with intolerances OK to do this tour? Unfortunately, if you have the likes of a gluten intolerance or a nut allergy, we wouldn’t recommend it. For lifestyle choices, this Adelaide food tour discusses and provides samples of meat (pork/beef) and dairy-based products. It is unfortunately not suitable for vegans, but vegetarians can attend and receive a substitute to the fritz sample (there are various vegetarian lunch options to choose from also). This must be outlined at the time of booking.
