Overview

Intro to surf session

These classes are for 6 to 12 year olds and they are run throughout school holidays. They run 3 mornings a week (and more often during peak times) and on Saturday mornings throughout the school terms. Kids only classes are run with an even lower coach-to-participant ratio of 4:1 to ensure maximum amounts of both safety and fun!

The Intro to surf session is the prerequisite to our Beginner surf programs and we cover the following

• Identify the parts of the surf board and equipment

• Basic surf awareness

• Recognize hazards in the surf

• Learn the steps to standing on a board

• Ride a broken wave in the white wash assisted by the instructor

• How to fall off safely in the shallows

Our Shop is located behind the Seaway Cafe, at the end of Seaworld Drive Main Beach. The seaway cafe is located in the carpark and parking is FREE all day. Check in time is 15 min prior to your lesson, to find us just walk down the right hand side between the Cafe and the amenities block and come in the back gate.

Get Ready. We really need you to be in your swim wear when you arrive so we can get the class started on time. We will check you in, make sure everyone has arrived, grab a rashie/ wet suit and board and head down to the beach. Mum or Dad can jump in and help with carrying the board if you like but we do pair up the kids to make it easier for them to carry.

Get Started: This is where you have to listen, the instructors will run through a really important safety brief about the conditions you are surfing in on that day followed by some really easy techniques to help you get up on the board as easily as possible and maximise your vertical time on the board and of course how to fall off safely. For the safety of our participants we conduct adults lesson separately to children’s. For the best results, our adults (13 years ) group surfing lessons run with a maximum 5 student to 1 instructor ratio (this is a lower ratio than recommended by leading surfing bodies). For children’s group surfing lessons (6-12 years ) we run with a maximum 4 student to 1 instructor ratio.

These sessions are an introduction to surfing so you need no experience or skills at all. The instructor is in the water with you the entire time. You can sign up for 1 lesson to see if you like it and if you want more we offer a discount for 3 or 5 lessons.

Ages

Child between 6 and 12 years

No swimming ability necessary. The lesson is conducted in waist deep water but you must be strong enough to hold onto your own surf board (parents may assist with this)

Any child with a medical condition or previous injury are recommended to seek the advice of your physician.

How to use

After the booking is comfirmed you will receive an email with attachment. Please check the details on the voucher. On the day of tour, please take the voucher to participate in the avtivity.

Please arrive 15 minutes prior to your session time to make sure you complete check in.

The scheduled selection time is the first session time. If you choose a 3 or 5 session product, please confirm the reservation for the later sessions with the counter at the first registration.

Any rescheduling of sessions within 24 hours will have a 20% rescheduling fee applied.

Any no-shows will not be entitled to a refund.

Good to know

You need to bring: swimmers, towel, thongs (flip flops) and a bottle of water.

Participants must understand the precautions and safety instructions in English.

Photographic and or visual images taken by Get Wet Surf School of my participation in the activity may be used for general promotion of Get Wet Surf School.

PUBLIC HOLIDAYS: A surcharge will be applied to lessons on official Queensland public holidays.

At our surf school, we run surf lessons in all weather and surf conditions, rain hail or shine, providing it is safe to do so. If the surf is too big, or completely flat, or if the conditions are unsafe due to high winds or lightning, then we will reschedule your lesson. If we change the time and you are unable to come to the new lesson, then we will provide a credit toward another lesson at a later date. If that is unsatisfactory we may issue a refund at our discretion.

If the booking is forcibly cancelled due to the reasons of the travel product supplier, we will refund the full amount corresponding to the booking without additional compensation.

We will try our best to assist tourists to communicate and negotiate solutions with tourism product suppliers.

In the event of an unexpected situation without insurance, we will only assist in handling it.

No show: Ticket holders who 'no show' without prior cancellation or notification are not eligible for a refund.

We will try our best to assist tourists to communicate and negotiate solutions with tourism product suppliers.

For some marine products (including but not limited to various cruises, whale watching cruise, etc.), the supplier reserve the right to arrange alternative vessels or make changes to itineraries, service timetables, routes and/or destinations. The supplier may cancel or abandon the cruise if they consider it necessary for weather or safety reasons and except as expressly stated in these Terms and Conditions, we will not be liable for any loss or expense incurred by the Passenger caused by such substitution or cancellation.

When visiting attractions or participating in activities, please strictly adhere to the instructions provided by the venue or staff. Ensure you fully understand the associated risks (refer to venue announcements or the safety waiver required for signature for specific details), cooperate as required to implement appropriate safety precautions, and strictly refrain from engaging in any dangerous behaviors during the activity.
