Travel time: Mid-January to Mid-December → Select 【Launceston (Part 1)】
Travel time: Mid-December to Mid-January of the following year → Select 【Launceston (Part 2)】
1. Hobart City: Richmond Town – Salamanca Square – Wellington Hill – Cascade Brewery Exterior
Visit Richmond Town, one of Tasmania’s most historic towns. This area boasts Australia’s oldest stone bridge and a quaint church, making it a great place to experience the atmosphere of an English town and take photos. Head to the lively Salamanca Square, home to art galleries, craft shops, and various cafes and restaurants, a perfect place to experience Hobart’s urban culture and artistic atmosphere. (If visiting on a Saturday, you can also visit the Salamanca Market). In the afternoon, ascend Wellington Hill for panoramic views of Hobart and the magnificent Derwent River, experiencing the natural charm of the sea breeze and mountain scenery. (If, due to unforeseen circumstances, you cannot visit Wellington Hill, the itinerary will be changed to Rosny Hill Lookout.) The final stop is a tour of the Cascade Brewery. This is Australia’s oldest brewery, its exterior retaining a classic architectural style, making it a popular landmark for photography and sightseeing.
2. Port Arthur: Four Natural Wonders – Port Arthur Historic Site – Optional 1.5-hour Cape Raoul Cruise (at your own expense)
Departing from Hobart, drive southeast along the scenic Tasman Highway to Port Arthur for a day trip filled with natural wonders and historical culture.
The first stop on the itinerary is the Tasman Peninsula’s famous “Four Wonders”—Checkerboard Rock, Blowhole, Tasman Arch, and Devil’s Kitchen.
Afterwards, visit the Port Arthur Historic Site, once an important base for British convicts in the 19th century and now a World Heritage Site. The park preserves numerous historical buildings, including the main prison, church, workshops, and hospital, offering insights into the lives of prisoners and the historical context of the colony. (A 1.5-hour Cape Raoul cruise can be added).
3. Wineglass Bay: Swansea – Fressina National Park – Wineglass Bay Viewpoint – Honeymoon Bay
From Hobart, drive north along the East Coast Scenic Drive for approximately 2 hours to reach the seaside town of Swansea. This is one of Tasmania’s oldest seaside settlements, offering views of the Fressina National Park mountains across the water while enjoying tranquil coastal scenery. Afterwards, head to the Wineglass Bay viewpoint, approximately a 1-hour drive. The round trip on the trail takes about 1.5 hours, with a moderate uphill section offering the most classic view—a crescent-shaped white sand beach reflecting the azure waters, one of Tasmania’s most iconic sights.
Next, visit Honeymoon Bay, a small but beautiful bay with crystal-clear waters, perfect for a quiet stroll or taking photos.
4. Cradle Mountain: Sheffield – Cradle Mountain National Park – Dove Lake – Ronny Creek
First, visit the town of Sheffield. This is the famous “Mural Town,” where vibrant murals line the streets, telling stories of Tasmania’s history and life. Afterwards, we continue to Cradle Mountain National Park.
Within the park, we’ll mainly visit Dove Lake, considered a postcard-perfect spot in Cradle Mountain. Its mirror-like surface reflects the majestic peaks, making it a perfect location for photos. Ronny Creek, a wetland meadow, is a habitat for wombats, where you can often see them up close. The boardwalk here is also perfect for a relaxing stroll.
(If the summit is closed, the tour will be changed to include hiking trails near Ranger Station at the foot of the mountain, such as the Enchanted Walk and King Billy Track.)
5. Launceston (Part 1): Swiss Village → Tamar Island Wetland Reserve → Cataract Gorge (Visit time: Mid-January to Mid-December)
Starting from Launceston city, first visit the picturesque Grindelwald Swiss Village, a Swiss town modeled after a traditional Swiss village, featuring lake views, wooden houses, cafes, and craft shops—a great place for photography and leisurely strolls.
Next, drive to the Tamar Island Wetland Reserve, traversing a vast wetland ecosystem along a boardwalk. You’ll have the chance to see native birds, black swans, frogs, and various aquatic plants—an ideal place to get close to nature. Finally, we’ll visit Cataract Gorge. Featuring suspension bridges, walking trails, cable cars, viewing platforms, and meadows teeming with kangaroos and peacocks, it’s one of Langsey’s most iconic natural attractions.
5. Launceston (Part 2): Bridestowe Lavender Estate (admission not included) + Cataract Gorge (Visit time: mid-December to mid-January)
The itinerary starts in Launceston city center, first visiting the famous Bridestowe Lavender Estate (admission not included). The entire purple flower field is romantic and soothing; stroll through the flower fields for photos, sample unique lavender desserts, and purchase souvenirs.
Afterwards, head to the city’s backyard, Cataract Gorge, hiking mountain trails and crossing suspension bridges, taking a cable car ride for panoramic views of the gorge, and perhaps even encountering kangaroos and peacocks along the way. Easily unlock Launceston’s natural and romantic charm.
